Katarina “Kat” Kitovski is by all rights the exact opposite of Roland. She’s cynical, jaded, has seen the worst of the world, and knows full well its a dog-eat-dog world where you don’t get anywhere without stepping on people. She’s been a thief, a bounty hunter, a thug, and everything in between. She knew people. She knew *exactly* what makes them tick. She knew *exactly* how and why they will let you down – every time. She had it all figured out and knew *exactly* how to get what she wanted from life.
And then she met Roland.
She knew he couldn’t be what seemed. Nobody was really that selfless. But the more she tried to catch him out, the more she tried to unmask the fraud, the more she failed. And eventually her constant efforts to unmask him turned to admiration and respect. She’d absolutely never admit it, but she is drawn to his visions like nothing before in her life. She’s never allowed herself to believe in anything, but around him – she does. And since the one thing she can’t *stand* is the idea of him ever losing faith in his cause she works tirelessly behind the scenes to make *sure* things turn out the way he dreams.
When the local functionary isn’t impressed with Roland’s visions of a happier world, he somehow changes his tune and sees the light the next day. Kat’s midnight visit with compromising documents had nothing to do with it. Naturally. When the mafioso refuses to budge on finding a more agreeable line of business, he somehow sees the better of his ways a few days later. The local loan shark somehow finding out about his double dealing in between? Entirely coincidental.
She knows Roland wouldn’t approve of her methods. She also knows he knows more than he lets on. She really wants to believe things can always work out doing things his way, but she is who she is. As far as she is concerned the Dream – that’s what really matters. The details of how they get there are just that. Details.
In games Kat is always some variety of Rogue or Thief. She’s fast, she’s agile, but most of all she’s *smart*.
The challenge in rendering her is getting that signature smirk and knowing look. She’s got you all figured out, and she’s two steps ahead of you before you’ve even sorted out what you’re doing. I’ve gone through a number of different ethnicities for her, and ultimately went with an Italian look. It just suits her. Her queries tend to vary on:
