Victor and his band made their way to the Gloomfrost, and it was a dark and imposing place indeed. Dark spires of black ice, treacherous footing, and the faint sounds of large unknowns echoing through the caverns.
They had to make their way carefully through the area, constantly on the lookout for ambush. Snow Trolls, Yeti, Ice Wolves, Frost Salamanders… There was danger lurking all around. When they entered into the glacial tunnels below, it didn’t get any better. Strange sounds of large, chittering… things abounded. Along with the constant feeling of being watched….Just when the tension started getting too great, Angus grumbled: “Doesn’t anything ever *happen* in these blasted tunnels!“ You just *had* to say it, didn’t you Angus. You just *had* to say it…
They ended up in a running battle against what seemed like an entire colony of polar ice-worm monstrosities, culminating in an especially large “queen”.
As they moved deeper into the tunnel network, they came upon a most unexpected sight. An old dwarf with a small forge! The dwarf, Tiernon, had fading eyesight, but was forging items from Gloomfrost ice! He showed Angus how he worked it, and fixed a few of the odds and ends they had found in the corridors above. He also told them how to find their way in to see the Gloomfrost Seer… and that she was hiding there explicitly to avoid Victor! Victor swore on his honor that he meant absolutely no harm whatsoever, but the dwarf said the Seer would have to explain. When they finally met the Seer, she told them that their coming would lead to her death! She told them that Wylfdene was being possessed by an ancient Ice Dragon with a grudge against the Ten Towns for a broken heart centuries ago. And she told them that they could force her to leave Wylfdene and reveal her true self by showing her her own current physical form. And that Tiernon could forge them a mirror of ice to accomplish this. Victor tried to convince her to come with them, flee somewhere safe, or actively challenge her fate in some way rather than simply waiting to die. But she refused. There was nothing they could do.

you hit on all the highlights here! I love the creepy eyeball. That is among the more alarming things about the Gloomfrost, the feeling of being watched everywhere.
The Remorhaz is quite good! Even the winglet thingies. Now make it spit acid….
Tiernon is one of my favorite things about HoW. He’s friendly, likable, and an odd encounter. Well done!
I really wanted to get a pic of Jim giving Angus the side-eye for the “does nothing ever happen” comment when the remorhaz shows up. But Jim plus Angus plus the contorted description I had to use for the beast just broke the AI. It could never get all elements right.
The seer was surprisingly difficult as well. It desperately wanted to make her a man no matter how I jiggled the tags. No idea why – three people when I have a very loose requirement for the third isn’t usually that hard.
I was just dealing with something similar earlier today! Diomedes and Keldorn, and it just does NOT want to give Keldorn any armor! Weird. As you say, I had thought adding a blurred background figure would be easy. Oof. Almost as tricky as getting armor on Keldorn. Seriously, I think I had less trouble with a (barely) passable beholder.
Challenge accepted. If you check the Monsters page here: https://zenosziggurat.com/ai-concepts-monsters-and-mayhem/
you’ll see that I revisited the Remorhaz for Winter’s Warriors, and came upon a better set up tags to give a more menacing version that yes, Virgina, also spits acid.
