Solasta: The Legacy Council

I probably should have done this early in the run – to establish who is who and what that means. But I wasn’t translating all the Council politicking into the Blog. So before the political machinations really come to a head, here’s the basics:

Master Ilastar Airgetine

  • Faction: The Arcaneum
    • The Arcaneum was essentially the mages guild of the old Manacalon Empire, although it was heavily intertwined with the goverment
  • Nationality: The New Empire
    • The New Empire is what is left of the old High Elf Manacalon Empire, now vastly diminished in power from its pre-Cataclysm heights.

Master Airgetine has always come across as a rational moderate on the Council. He’s not quick to judge, he’s seldom strongly pre-disposed in any direction. He listens to the facts at hand and then says his piece. He’s never come across as either a strong supporter or an opponent.

Chancellor Hertha Gormsdottir

  • Faction: The Antiquarians
    • Originally a scholar’s and explorer’s guild within the Snow Alliance, it is now organized very much like a University. It is dedicated to recovering and studying pre-Cataclysm knowledge. Tess was trained by the Antiquarians.
  • Nationality: The Snow Alliance
    • The Snow Alliance is a far northern nation formed when the Sylvan Elves and the Snow Dwarves banded together for protection from the Manacalon Empire. They are one of the few pre-Cataclysm nations that was not conquered.

Hertha comes across as very focused on understanding how things work. She seems to have a strong urge to poke and tinker. It was Hertha’s idea to test the reaction of the Crown to the first Gem after Tess recovered and returned to the Council. She’s never been an antagonist, but she often seems so focused on the immediate details that she looses the bigger picture.

Princess Ceiwad Silverflower

  • Faction: Independent
    • The Princess is the Head of State for the Principality of Masgarth. She is not in the Council as either a representative of Masgarth or representing any other faction, but has “at-large” membership simply due to her own personal political and magical weight.
  • Nationality: Principality of Masgarth
    • Masgarth is the largest and wealthiest state in modern Solasta, and comes across as something of a merchant kingdom with a nominal royal head-of-state who’s not terribly involved in day-to-day affairs. Its capital is at Caer Cyflen, and it hosts the Legacy Council due to its proximity to the Badlands.

Princess Silverflower has always seemed… distracted and distant. She has generally been supportive of our heroes, and once they were officially tasked as “CrownBearers” she gave them lodgings at her own estate. She is also much older than she looks, with nobody really clear on how long she’s been around.

Protector Leira Kean

  • Faction: Legacy Council
    • Leira is technically an employee of the Council rather than a member. But as she swears in deputies, acts as master of ceremonies and Secretary, and generally runs the Council administratively, she is given much leeway in her ability to speak to the Council – even if she can’t actually vote.
  • Nationality: Principality of Masgarth.

Leira has always seemed a very straight shooter. She’s opinionated and conservative, but we’ve always fairly treated by her..

Grandmaster Edvan Danantar

  • Faction: Circle of Danantar
    • The Circle of Danantar was originally a school for adventurers. Although it has transitioned into more of an arcane focus, it is still very focused on practical solutions real world problems.
  • Nationality: Principality of Masgarth

Grandmaster Danantar seems a very practical, no-nonsense type. He was slow to believe in the Sorak threat in the beginning, but quickly pivoted to dealing with it directly once it was a proven fact. It was he who originally asked to look at the Crown, and he who caught Tess when she passed out. He has been generally supportive.

Dean Iolair Faisech

  • Faction: Tower of Knowledge
    • The Tower of Knowledge is the premier scholarly organization in the Kingdom of Gallivan – with somewhat of a “knowledge for hire” reputation.
  • Nationality: Kingdom of Gallivan
    • Gallivan is a rather cosmpolitan nation with a variety of races, with a slight majority being halflings. Its well known for both its merchants and its smugglers..

Dean Faisech has so far been by the far the most antagonistic of the councillors. He was the most openly dismissive of the idea of the Sorak’s returning, and the one who most offensively questioned our hero’s motives and trustworthiness. He was also the representative who suggested taking the Crown away from them and giving it into the care of “more competent and qualified agents”. Every time we have interacted with the Council, he’s been on the other side.

Marshal Beric Sunblaze

  • Faction: Church of Einar
    • Einar is the god of Valor, Justice, and Honor. This is the deity that Roland follows. The Church of Einar is also explicitly dedicated to staying vigilant against the threat of the Soraks, and has been since the Cataclysm.
  • Nationality: Principality of Masgarth
    • As above.

Marshal Sunblaze is a high ranking Paladin in the Church of Einar. He has also been the most unequivocally supportive of our party since the beginning. He was the first to believe them and the first to defend them. He invited them to stay in the Church after Tess passed out, and personally stood guard until they were ready to leave. He has been firmly behind them in every matter that has come before the Council.

  1. it looks like Faisech is the only full-time pain in the rear? It’s funny, any I hear the name “Council” I imagine a source of absolutely nothing good.

    1. He’s the only clearly antagonistic one, but they’re all following their own agendas. Marshal Sunblaze is the only one I trust as fully aligned with us. The rest have a fair bit of “I can’t be on the same side as that one, so I’ll reflexively oppose anything they suggest” going on, as well as being just as concerned with the relative impacts on their individual factions/nations as with the global threat.

    2. Just for the heck of it I tried to do a render briefly describing all of them. The Page pic is one result of them. Obviously doesn’t do a good job of representing their described characters, but it *does* to a good job of making a Council of people who look very different. Something to keep in mind in the future when I want crowds/audiences that don’t all look the same.
