Continuing with my Baldur’s gate re-imaginings. This set is dedicated to Minsc, Dynaheir, Edwin/Edwina, and all their fun interactions – including (as always) their interactions with Imoen.

Minsc

NG Human Ranger

So for Minsc the biggest problem with AI rendering is that the AI *desperately* wants to give him a beard. Especially if you use some of the obvious tags like “russian”, “ukrainian”, or “barbarian”. I had some luck with “face like a marine” – but that lead to ammo belts and power armor. My best qualifier actually turned out to be “Cherokee” – as few Cherokee in the training set would have beards and you get a “tribal” asthetic for free with the ride.

Dyneheir

Dynaheir, in contrast, was *much* easier. I mostly tried to combine a Caribbean look with a tribal shaman aesthetic to get a good Rasheman Witch vibe with her.

Edwin

For Edwin we go with a “sinister English politician” sort of look. Like an English Cardinal Richelieu with facial piercings… And try to throw in an “irritated with the world” vibe as well.

Minsc & Dynaheir

For this one I went with Minsc presenting Boo to a mildly confused Dynaheir.

Minsc & Imoen

Minsc and Imoen just go fantastically together. This is just pure *fun*.

Dyneheir & Imoen

Here I went with Dynaheir teaching Imoen magic. Its what BG NPC project went with, and it makes for some great scenes with the two.

Minsc & Edwin

Here we have all the fun potential of the giant berserker threatening the evil mage… with a hamster.

Edwin & Imoen

Went for some fun takes at Imoen mocking Edwin taking himself so seriously with this one.

Edwina & Imoen

And while this is technically focused on BG1, I just couldn’t resist the idea of Imoen laughing at Edwin’s predicament here… I started out having her outright pointing and laughing, but her standing next to “Edwina” trying *not* to laugh was so much funnier.

    Another really awesome set. Pardon my gushing enthusiasm!
    Minsc and Imoen are perfect together, the camaraderie is vivid.

    I also really like Dyna teaching Imoen. Makes the start of BG2 really sting. But Imoan’s look of awe and wonder is beautiful.

    Minsc and Edwin can obviously never be friends! But I particularly like the one with the council of hamsters looking down in judgement. (The AI often doesn’t know when to quit with critters?).

    and Imoen and Edwin, just laugh out loud funny.

      Those were loads of fun. And yes, the council of hamsters was just too “out there” to leave out. I had been hoping that exploring some of these interactions could help me settle on a party, but in some ways they’re making it harder. Can’t have Keira, Kord, Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Dynaheir, and Minsc all in one party. And just can’t see breaking up any of those duos.

      May have to do Keira and/or Kord interacting with some of these folks to see what works best there. Imoen and Minsc, for example, just works so well that its hard to imagine not having them together even if they’re not an official couple.

      Keira and Kord have actually kicked off. Keira is single-class Shadowdancer. Making her a F/T just because Thief seems weak by itself felt like betraying the initial point of the characters. Kord is single-class Berserker (he’s no barbarian, but he has his berserk buttons and pulls it out when he has to). That feels too strong, conversely, but it fits him better than any of the other choices.

        Have had some luck getting good pics with K&K. Kord arm wrestling with Minsc. Jaheira trying to talk sense into an angry Kord. Jaheira trying to settle an upset Keira. Minsc and Keira having a race where Keira “cheat” with shadow-jumping. That sort of thing.

    Mate, panel 6 and 7 of Dyneheir and Imoen are just perfect. This makes me wonder whether I sould give this a go as well. I’ve been playing this since 1999 and D and D since 1980. Many a scene has played out in my head regarding the NPC’s in this game. I’ve tried nearly all of them at some point. To have their interactions visualised in a type of living comic is the way of the future.

      You should absolutely give it a try. That’s what this page is all about. I just started with it a few months ago, and you can see the progress as I worked through my own character library and various NPCs. Some of them are impossible to find good pics for the internet search way, but I can get some great stuff with some patience in Bing.

    Yeah mate definately going to give it a go. Like you, never was satisfied with the crop of images and am always looking. Where as, with this powerful a tool I could make them myself.

    I do the same thing with voices for my character. Find an actor or character performance I like and sample away.

    Gets obsessive doesn’t it.

      It can get that way. But man it feels good to finally get good pics of old characters that’ve been making do with whatever i can dig up for years.
