RPG Character Sketches: Baldur’s Gate 2 Revisited (Vol 5)

Rounding out the set of BG2 companions with the Evil ones. As per BG1 I’m not including interactions with Minsc in this set, because that seems repetitive to me. I am attempting, however, to add some “action shots” for each of them to show their stuff.

Edwin Odesseiron

LE Human Conjurer

Ah Edwin. The evil Thayan mage who is never *nearly* as subtle and manipulative as he thinks he is.

For BG2 I gave Edwin a more conspiring than irritated look. He also has more of a beard than a goatee. I also tweaked nationality and made him a bit sturdier.

conspiring hardy breton man,mage,arrogant,eyebrow ring,nose ring on chain,wide face,dark brown eyes,age 42,irritated,red robes,steepled hands,red hood with golden trim,gold headband,brown hair,short beard,moustache with rings,sly,calculating,sinister;in medieval fantasy city;dark fantasy,d&d,rpg portrait,oil paint,drawing

Edwina

Of course, as Edwina, he’s a bit more irritated.

Hexxat

NE Vampire Thief

I’ve never actually run with Hexxat. But the core concept – an african vampire thief seems to lend itself to some cool imagery. I tried a number of different ethnicities before settling on “Yoruba” as the one that looked most like her portrait to me.

“Yoruba woman,(age 32);short curly hair,large earrings,neck rings,bead necklace,disdainful,haughty,predatory,black leather armor;(oil paint),drawing,(rpg portrait),(dark fantasy),(dark shading),d&d”

Korgan Bloodaxe

CE Dwarf Berserker

Korgan is a foul-tempered dwarven berserker. I’ve never run a BG2 party who could get along with him for any length of time. But he comes across to me as Kagain dialed up to 11. I went with a Danish look for him, as that gave me the “dark dwarven” look I wanted.

“danish dwarf warrior,(age 32),stocky,stout,barrel-chested, strong, scowling, scarred face, bad temper,black hair,black beard with ring braids,chainmail armor,horned helmet,axe held at ready;in the forest;(oil paint),drawing,(rpg portrait),(dark fantasy),(dark shading),d&d”

Dorn Il Khan

NE Half-Orc Blackguard

For BG2 I went with a bit different look than I used for BG1. I took Dorn’s surname – “Il Khan” – and extrapolated a more Mongolian sort of look for him.

“burly gray skin half-orc,mongolian,(clean-shaven),(smooth chin),stubble,age 30,evil,intense glare,menacing,angry,heavyset,neat black hair combed back,dark plate armor,threatening viewer with greatsword;in medieval city;dark fantasy,d&d,rpg portrait,oil paint,drawing”

Sarevok Anchev

CE/G Human Fighter

Sarevok has a very middle-eastern look to me in BG2:ToB. I went with Egyptian both for the style and symbology and because that gave me the closest look to his default BG2 portrait. I also went for an intense but ambivalent stare, since he can end up either good or evil depending upon your choices as you talk to him.

“large strong egyptian man,bald,clean shaven,very small goatee,orange glowing eyes,age 35,intense stare,forehead triquetra tattoo,plate armor,muscular;in medieval city;dark fantasy,d&d,rpg portrait,oil paint,drawing”

  1. A whole bunch of guys I’ll never use! But it’s still fun to see these.

Your choice of Edwin is probably the pic of the bunch. But I really like the look of panel 2 and 3. Panel 3 with a slight smirk would be great. I’ve been trying to pin it down, I think it might be the ‘professor Moriaty’ mustache that puts it into first place.

Edwina, oh Edwina. I really like panel 2 and 9. i thing both of those expressions could work equally well on Jaheria, Viconia and Imoen. Maybe I’ve seen it on my wife too many times, but it really works.

    Great job.

    1. Heh. I used my wife and daughter as Edwina inspiration as well. We’ve all seen that expression.
I like the BG1 Edwin portrait better than the BG2 one. Just more personality. So here I tried to veer more that direction. He’s just the sort of guy to literally twirl his moustache while muttering his plans under his breath.
