Continuing with the final set of companions – those who appear in Chapters 2 and 3. Then there will be one final set to go of Advisers who play a role in the game but don’t go adventuring with you.
Jubilost Narthropple (Wiki Entry)
Race: Gnome
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Class: Alchemist

“short halfling student, stocky, age 30,neat goatee, short straight black hair, long arched eyebrows;small glasses, hands on hips, practical leather coat adorned with various tools, pouches, and small vials, appraising the viewer“
Jubilost is a reknowned scholar, researcher, and traveller with a variety of books to his name. He can be arrogant and full of himself… but he usually backs it up. And do not get into a battle of wits with him. He is quite quick with both debate and insults.
Jubilost is my favorite of the Kingmaker companions. I understand why some don’t care for him. He’s a know-it-all, he doesn’t really believe in sugar-coating things, and he immediately challenges you on your purposes and motivations. The thing is, 90% of the time he is absolutely right. And he has good reason to be wary of the new Baron, given how many despots and bandit lords have taken charge over the years while pretending to be saving the kingdom. What I love about Jubilost is that he’s clever, he’s resourceful, he almost always has his heart in the right place, and he will always, *always* tell you *exactly* what he thinks and why. A good leader needs an Adviser willing to tell them when they are being stupid or overlooking something obvious. And Jubilost was born for that role.
I have no idea why he is listed as “Chaotic Neutral”. He seems more concerned with ethical implications and long term consequences than most companions. He is definitely no friend to evil, and less selfish than most. Chaotic I can understand. He has a healthy distrust of organized power and centralized institutions. Its like he was labelled by someone who couldn’t tell the difference between “good”, “nice”, and “polite”.
Jubilost can serve as an Adviser as either Treasurer or Spymaster. I like him best as Treasurer. You need that sooner, and I usually find I agree with his suggestions. Later, when you do need a Spymaster, I tend to move him into that job and let Kanerah take over as Treasurer.
Jubilost can fit well in parties. He can easily fill the rogue role – as he can be quite good at locks and traps. And his alchemical bombs can be a godsend against hard-to-hit enemies and distributed pests like spider swarms. Alchemist also has the unique ability to brew potions for otherwise self-only spells like shield. He’s also not too bad with a crossbow if he runs out of bombs, and can even use agents like alchemical fire on his crossbow bolts.
Ekundayo and “Dog” (Wiki Entry)
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Good
Class: Ranger

“african-american ranger man, smooth skin, age 30, buzz cut black hair, stern expression, rough, professional leather armor, pale yellow cloak, sturdy boots, standing with longbow at the ready“
Ekundayo is an actions over words type. He’ll talk if he must, but he’ll roll his eyes at small talk and won’t say too much about himself in a single conversation. He’s on a mission to avenge the deaths of his wife and young daughter – killed by a Troll named Kargadd as he lay crippled. He has a companion wolf that he simply calls “Dog”, and to which he will not acknowledge any real connection. As far as he is concerned “Dog” simply goes where he goes.
Ekandayo can come out of his shell a fair bit depending how things are handled. You have to be careful with his revenge quest, because it can seriously sour him if he gives in to it completely. And under no circumstances take he and Reg on quests related to each other’s desires for revenge. They can bring out the worst in each other at pivotal moments in those.
Ekandayo can serve as Warden or Spymaster. Spymaster can bring out some unfortunate over-zealous behavior on his part, so you have to be careful not to give in to every suggestion he makes. But he’s certainly a better choice for it than Jaethal. Shudder. Warden would be more his bag, but I prefer Kesten for that role (to be introduced with the Advisers).
Ekandayo is an excellent archer. Almost overpowered with the proper equipment. And Dog is seriously good knocking down melee foes and keeping them tied up – if a bit vulnerable without good protection.
Nok-Nok (Wiki Entry)
Race: Goblin
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Class: Rogue

“small short goblin warrior,dark yellow skin,red glowing eyes,thin,wide head,toothy smile,leather armor,leather helmet,fur boots,two curved daggers“
OK so this one takes the cake for “odd”. He’s a murderous little stab-monkey in combat, but absolutely convinced he is destined to be a great goblin hero. Even other goblins consider him touched in the head. He considers himself a champion of Lamashtu – Mother of Monsters. He does genuinely want to be a “hero”, but filters all the concepts through both goblin culture and his own wacked view of the world.
He’s scared of Linzi – because he considers writing down what someone says to be black magic of the highest order. “It steals think-thoughts! Takes them away!“. “Linzee do it all the time, but somehow she STILL have think-thoughts. Why she have so many?“
Nok-Nok is, blessedly, not an option for an adviser in anything. He has some interesting roles to play if you bring him along on Goblin-related quests, but I largely don’t know what to do with him. He’s amusing enough to talk with, and I’ll help him out when his quests come up, but I’ve never made him a standard member of the party.
