Pillars of Eternity II: Polar Opposites

So Grim’s Gang is in the midst of a long (in play time terms) DLC in a rather chillier clime than the tropical islands where they’ve been spending most of their time lately. So here’s an opportunity to re-render them in a more “Icewind Dale” sort of style, as I sort out their baseline descriptions for that adventure

Grimslade “Grim”

Human Brawler (Fighter/Helwalker Monk)

“A smeared fantasy watercolor of a tall burly Turkish barbarian standing on snowy docks. He is muscular and 40, with maori face tattoos, loose black hair, a goatee, wearing a cloak over rugged viking armor, black leather pants, and boots. Luis Royo style. swirling wind.”

Notes:

Grim’s been all over, and comes from – while not the far north – certainly cooler areas than they’ve been to so far. So he’s mostly fine throwing on a cloak and ignoring the chill. He will need to swap out that Axe for a two-handed morning star a lot, as there’s a number of critters in the snow that are more vulnerable to blunt weaponry.

Brigit “Blur”

Human Barbarian (no subclass)

“A smeared fantasy watercolor of a young irish rogue girl on a snowy dock. She is 22, with freckled skin, short wild reddish bob hair, flashing green eyes, and celtic face tattoos. She wears a green fur jacket over leather armor, leather pants, and boots. She has two sheathed sabers. Luis Royo style. swirling wind”

Notes:

Due to her fighting style, Blur is going to need a careful balance between warm and bulky. So she’s going to favor something like this ensemble .

Adam “Ace” Masters

“Dwarf” Rogue (no subclass)

A smeared fantasy watercolor of a short halfling sharpshooter on a snowy dock. He is age 30, stout, clean shaven, italian, stocky, with short black toussled hair and a round face, wearing a cloak over black leather armor and boots. He has an arquebus rifle slung over his back. Luis Royo style. swirling wind”

Notes:

Ace mostly wants to avoid a bulky fur cloak that gets in the way of his aim. Other than that he’s not as reliant on motion, so can deal with nice, warm boots.

Selena “Star” Cullen

Human Theurge (Chanter/Lifegiver Druid)

“A smeared fantasy watercolor of an alabama cleric woman smiling on a snowy dock. She is 35, with a plain thin face, short brown unkempt hair, brown eyes, wearing hippy necklaces. She wears a warm cloak over leather armor, and tassled leather boots, and is holding a wooden bo staff. Forehead tattoo. Luis Royo style. swirling wind”

Notes:

Star is probably the best suited of any of them to simply ignore the weather altogether, as her druid magic is perfectly capable of keeping her warm.. But she would dress to fit in anyway – both out of solidarity and to avoid too heavily putting a bullseye on her forehead in a *gank the spellcaster* world..

Sapphire

Wood Elf Wizard

“A watercolor painterly portrait of an ethiopian elf wizard waiting on a medieval dock. She is 45, with silver face tattoos, sharp exotic features, brown skin, straight black hair, dark eyes, and eyebrow rings. She wears purple hooded wizard robes, and holds an arcane wand. Luis Royo style.”

Notes:

Sapphire, on the other hand, will *not* enjoy the frozen north. She doesn’t like bulky clothes. She’s essentially from the fantasy version of southern Italy, and she will likely resent a little that while Star can simply choose to be warm she has to light a fire to accomplish that – and even magic fire is likely to give away their position when they don’t want to attract attention..

And of course, group shots!! Brought to you by OpenAI GPT 1.5. I tried a group movie based on these, but it kept doing odd things like making Star grow elf ears half-way through and having Blur’s hair stay static when she turned her head like it was starched in place. And I wasn’t prepared to blow enough credits to make it work.

One response to “Pillars of Eternity II: Polar Opposites”

  1. Wow, I love the snowy setting. Everyone looks a little cold and windblown. Awesome stuff.
I’ve encountered the same issue with video renders, the one I recently did with Psyche and Moya I had to dump a couple because Psyche sprouted elf ear as it went. Very odd.
And funny this would come up! You know I’m planning on an IWD run for Diomedes’ and his crew next. Mostly I’m eager to run the team with the more fully developed character generation.
